Dera's Bio

Dera Williams has lived, worked, and played in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area for most of her life. A passionate reader and writer, she has reviewed the fiction and non-fiction of African American authors for a national audience. As a reviewer for Affaire de Coeur for the past seven years, she has also interviewed prestigious authors such as Shirley Hailstock, Donna Hill and Francis Ray. She has also been a reviewer/editor with APOOO Exchange Team, the book review arm of A Place of Our Own. She is an active member of Marcus Book Club of Marcus Books in Oakland where she has had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with many writers. Dera has recently ventured into the freelance writing arena.

Her award-winning non-fiction has appeared in anthologies such as the best-selling Cup of Comfort series and the forthcoming anthology by Marper Publishing and literary magazine, The Peralta Press. She has written a collection of childhood memoirs of which one of the stories was published in a local publication. Dera is also writing a novel, a coming-of-age story set in her birth state of Arkansas. Dera has been employed with a local community college for fourteen years where she works in curriculum development. She enjoys discussing literature with her young adult daughter, Rebecca.
